Gerardo Perozziello has a PhD in micro and nanotechnology and a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with Biomedical orientation.
He works as assistant professor (SSD FIS/07) in the nanotechnology laboratory of the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine of the University -Magna Graecia- of Catanzaro (UMG).
His research interests and activities range from microfluidics to micro and nanofabrication technologies applied to biomedical issues. For conducting his research he received research grants from the Italian Ministry of Health and European funding agencies.
He authored and coauthored more than 80 scientific publications (international peer-reviewed papers and conference proceedings). He is co-author of 10 patents and 7 books.
He is a member of the Teaching Body of the UMG School of Specialization in Hygiene and Radiodiagnostics.
He teachs in the courses of Applied Physics for the degree course of Medicine and Surgery, dentistry, Biotechnology, nursing, Animal production Science and technology and Physical education.
He has been supervising several master, PhD students and PostDocs.



Gerardo Perozziello research interests and activities are mainly in the field of microfluidics and nanotechnologies.
In particular, these regard the design and implementation of microbioreactors for cell screening and processing, microfluidic devices for sample pretreatment, cell sorting, cell, DNA and protein analysis.
In addition, in the last years, his efforts were made to develop and integrate label-free nanosensors in microfluidic devices and to study new biomaterials and technologies for developing 3D scaffolds used to understand better and improve cell growing and cell-cell interactions.
Several collaborations with companies contributed to set his orientation versus the industrial research. These involve multidisciplinary fields, in particular Applied Physics, Material Science, Medicine, Biotechnology, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering.

He is reviewer for different International scientific Journals (Small, Electrophoresis, Biomedical Microdevices, Lab on a Chip, Biotechnology & BIoengineering,  Analytical Methods, Advanced Materials, Optics Communications, Advances in Materials Science and Engineering, Recents Patents on Regenerative Medicine, Micro and Nano Systems).
He was involved and is still involved in several research collaborations with different international Institutes such as the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the European Radiation Synchrotron Facility (ESRF), The Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Technical University of Braunschweig (TUB), NOrthwestern Universiy (NU).
